When support may help

You do not need to wait for a crisis.

Some people come when conversations keep turning into arguments. Others feel distant, face a major change or want to strengthen their relationships. We make room for your concerns and each person’s perspective.

How joint counselling is different

The relationship is at the centre.

In couple counselling, the couple is our client.

We work with you together as a relationship unit. Both perspectives matter, and we explore how your emotions, communication and responses influence one another.

Our role is to help you understand the pattern, make room for honest conversations and work towards your goals.

Individual counselling

A focus on one person

Sessions centre on your own experiences, wellbeing, needs and personal goals.

Couple counselling

A focus on the relationship

Sessions centre on both partners and the interaction between you: how you communicate, manage differences, express needs and respond to each other.

Family counselling

A focus on family relationships

We consider communication, roles and patterns within the family, while making room for each participating person’s experience.

Your first session

First, we get to understand you.

Your first 90-minute appointment is an assessment session. It helps us understand your concerns, consider whether joint counselling is suitable and plan a helpful starting point.

You do not need to resolve everything in the first appointment. Assessment may continue beyond the first session if more understanding is needed.

  1. 1

    Hear each perspective

We explore what brings you here, what has been happening and what each person hopes will change.

  2. 2

    Understand the relationship

We look at your history, strengths, recurring difficulties and any concerns about safety or speaking openly.

  3. 3

    Agree on a starting point

We explain the session agreements, discuss possible goals and consider appropriate next steps together.

Our session agreements

A shared space, with clear expectations.

Knowing how we work helps everyone participate with a clearer understanding of the process.

Space to be heard

When one speaks, the other listens.

Each person gets time to finish their thoughts. Your counsellor guides turn-taking and helps you listen to understand before responding.

Listening does not require agreement. It gives you a chance to hear the other person’s experience.

Transparency between partners

Openness in our work together.

Our couple counselling follows a no-secrets policy for information relevant to the shared therapy. We do not agree to hold relationship-relevant secrets for one partner against the other.

Your counsellor explains how separate conversations or messages will be handled before you agree to begin.

Respect, accountability & confidentiality.

We support honest communication and responsibility for your own behaviour. Understanding a relationship pattern does not excuse harmful behaviour or mean responsibility is always equal.

Transparency between partners is separate from confidentiality outside counselling. Your counsellor will explain confidentiality and its limits during assessment.

Meet your counsellors

Support for you, together.

Both Mr. Charlie and Mr. Chong Tin Fung provide couple and marital counselling. Our team can help with availability and suitable appointment arrangements.

For family counselling, tell our team who would be involved and what you hope to address so we can advise on a suitable arrangement.

Safety comes first

Joint sessions are not suitable in every situation.

If there is coercion, violence, intimidation or immediate danger, tell our team privately before booking a joint session. We will help consider a safer and more appropriate next step.

A few questions you may have

Before you book.

How much is each session?

Every session costs RM360 and lasts 90 minutes (1½ hours). This applies to both the first assessment session and all subsequent counselling sessions.

Will the counsellor take sides?

We work with the couple as our client and make room for both perspectives. We help you understand your interaction and take responsibility for your own behaviour. Harmful behaviour is addressed rather than treated as an ordinary difference of opinion.

Do we need to agree on everything before coming?

No. Different perspectives are often part of what brings people to counselling. You can begin by sharing your own experience and what you hope to understand or change.

What if my partner is not ready to attend?

Contact our team to discuss an appropriate starting point. Individual support may be an option, but it has a different focus from counselling with both partners together.

How many sessions will we need?

This depends on your concerns, goals and progress. Your counsellor will discuss the next steps after assessment and review the focus with you as counselling continues.

Does every family member need to attend?

The appropriate participants depend on the concern and the assessment. Tell our team who is involved before booking so we can advise on arrangements.
